Art n Clan n Projections

Bit of a whatever I've been up to update.
I'm working on a short little pixel sequence at the moment and learning TVPaint animation software!
It's interesting to use it for pixel stuff, as it is a bitmap program, rather than vector, so you can actually animate at a true pixel level. Learning all the shortcuts for it and the interface has proved complicated, it's very unique in it's layout and shortcuts. Frustratingly unique.
I'm considering using it to colour my film.

Composited Animation Exercises

Here is my final assignment for my 2nd year of uni. Composited animation exercises!
Animated in Toon Boom and motion tracked and placed in After Effects. I need to work out a smoother more accurate motion tracking system if I wanna try it some more. I'm considering making a short film using this kind of technique. It is pretty quick to throw together (well... not the animation part). Very fun though!

Woo! Here we go. After a stupid few days of animating here is my "proof of concept" Spike and Mudley Crime Police episode. So think of it as a taste of a much larger story (which I may do next year).

Zoologic

I just finished writing a 1500 word scene analysis from this great short animation.
I find the timing, design and confidence with posing and limited animation amazing.


I've recorded my dialogue with my house mate for my long dialogue animation. My uni has a pretty wicked professional recording booth set-up. Makes me have aspirations to be swearing at Robyn Williams through the glass as he acts like an idiot for my animated films.

Spike's Shootout - Key Poses

Here is my key pose assignment and Spike's animated internet debut (Spike of course being from Spike and Mudley: Crime Police fame).



For this assignment we needed to create at least 15 key frames for a little sequence. I added some extra stuff in there and in some cases a few breakdown drawings. The reason it's very stop start is because it was the criteria! I SWEAR IT! Smooth animation is super tedious anyway.
I'm now starting to work on my dialogue sequence, which will depict Mudley getting all up in Spike's grill in the middle of a drug bust.

Creation of a Scene Time Lapse

I decided to try something new and make a time lapse video of the creation of a scene!
This is about an hours work played at 1000x speed.
Song is Chopin - "Raindrop"
Now you can see how arcane my process is.

quick 'n' asty

Just a real quick and nasty animationy test.

Still not comfortable with the tempo and timing of stop mo. Check the bit where I bump the camera! Because my set up is so stupid and unpracticle there is a good chance I will do that often.


Funny thing, I stupidly picked up double sided tape thinking it was normal tape, but the double sided tape has proved to be vital for holding my sets together!
OH, here are some lighting tests as well. Using 2 LED key chain lights. Seems I can make some moody noir search lights. Fiddled with some fire too, just to see what happened.
